About the Yokohama Association for Promotion of Gender Equality (public interest incorporated foundation)

Aims



The Yokohama Association for Promotion of Gender Equality (public interest incorporated foundation) aims to help build a rich, vibrant society where human rights of all people is respected, and everyone is able to express their individuality and abilities to their fullest, and participate in any field on equal terms, regardless of their gender.
To achieve this, the three Yokohama Gender Equality Centers are the focal points to engage in the collection and provision of information, research and studies, public relations activities for awareness raising, educational training, counseling services, etc., in addition to providing support for activities led by local residents. The Association will look to coordinate and cooperate with governmental bodies, companies, schools, NPOs, and other bodies in contributing to the development of communities and ideal working environment  where all persons can participate, human rights are protected and diversity is respected.

History



 October      1987   Yokohama Women’s Association is established 
 September  1988   Yokohama Women’s Forum (currently known as Gender Equality Center Yokohama) opens
 July            1993   Forum Yokohama opens (inside Landmark Tower)
 April           2000   Yokohama Ladies Hall (currently known as Gender Equality Center Yokohama South) provided in trust
 April           2005    Operation management begins for the Gender Equality Center Yokohama and Gender Equality Center Yokohama South 
 September  2005   Association name changed
 October      2005   Forum Yokohama closes, Gender Equality Center Yokohama North opens 
 April           2011   Transition to a public interest incorporated foundation
